WoW made up half of Activision Blizzard’s money pile
Analysist’s have estimated that Blizzard’s subscription based World of Warcraft juggernaut has made up about half of Activision Blizzard’s earnings for fiscal year 2009.
In Decemeber, Blizzard stated that Wow currently has 11.5 million subscribers worldwide.
I have to tip my hat to WoW, with games like the Call of Duty and Guitar Hero franchises as part of the money making machine, it’s a pretty impressive feat to make up half the earnings.
Something I’m wondering is if WoW is actually bad for PC gaming overall. If that many people are investing their time in that game, a single title, do they still buy and play other PC games. Most WoW players I’ve known, dont’ play anything else on their PC other than WoW.
I’ve swapped over to console gaming, but back when I was exclusive to the PC, I spent my time playing a FPS like Call of Duty, or RTS such as Command & Conquer. Have MMORPGs succefully killed these types of games on PC, or are there still large amounts of people playing them?
