There is so much anticipation for the J.J. Abrams movie “Cloverfield” that it is almost impossible for it not to smash records in January. First of all, January has the one of the smallest opening weekend records of any of the months, second only to September. The current January opening weekend record holder is “Star Wars (Special Edition)”, which managed to gross $35,906,661 in it’s first weekend.
The second record it will break in it’s opening weekend is the all time weekend gross record. This title currently belongs to “Titanic”, which managed to grab $36,014,544 on the weekend of 1/16/1998. This was not the opening weekend of “Titanic” mind you, if you recall, it took a little time for “Titanic” to pick up speed before it peaked.
Depending on the quality of the movie, it could also go on to become the highest grossing film released in January. It all depends on how much momentum it can pick up based on quality and word of mouth. The first two records are almost certainly a sure thing, whether it takes the all time record though, it yet to be determined.

It looks to me like January, April, September, and October could use some better movies.

Well, they’ve managed to do it again. Warner Bros. has mixed up yet another blu-ray release. This time it’s the new release of Blade Runner. You may recall the first mix up being with the new Harry Potter Blu-Ray, in which an HD DVD copy of one of the movies was in years 1-5 collection. Read about it here.
Anyway, In some Blu-ray editions of the five disc release of Blade Runner, the fifth disc which should contain the “Work Print” is a duplicate of disc one.
Warner can be contacted if you have recived a set with the duplicate. Contact their service hotline at: 1-800-553-6937
This number can also be used if you received one of the flawed Harry Potter sets that contained a HD DVD disc in a Blu-ray set.
Warner should really start paying closer attention to how they are packaging their Blu-Ray discs. This has got to be irritating to those Blu-Ray consumers out there.

Those of you following the format war closely are probably already aware of all the speculation over Warner Bros. announcing their stance on the high-definition disc formats. Much of this hubbub began a few weeks ago when a Business Week article postulated what might happen if Warner chose sides instead of remaining neutral. As the story picked up steam, HD DVD haters assured everyone that Warner would make a major announcement in their favor at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in early January.
Just days after the Business Week article came out, nationally syndicated columnist, Don Lindich, received a very brief clarification from a Warner executive, who reiterated their neutral stance for the forseeable future. Two days later, another Warner executive from half way around the world in Australia echoed the same sentiments.
With CES just a couple of weeks away, Don Lindich again offers up the latest assurance that Warner is not going to do what the HD DVD haters think. Don is among the CES attendees who have received invitations to the HD DVD Promotional Group’s press conference at CES. The invitation clearly lists Warner Home Video as one of the presenters, and Don was told by the PR agency handling the event that Warner is showing up to speak. You can see the invitation card for yourself and read more about it at his blog.

Don’t be fooled by his movies, or his charming on screen personality, because the last thing Will Ferrell wants to do, is talk to you. Will Ferrell has been voted Hollywood’s worst autograph signer.
Honorable mentions go to Tobey Maguire, Joaquin Phoenix, William Shatner, Renee Zellweger, John Malkovich, Julie Andrews, Bruce Willis, Teri Hatcher and Scarlett Johansson. All of these celebrities also made the list of worst celebrity signers, but were unable to take the top spot from Ferrell.
I can understand getting annoyed, but that’s the price you have to pay for being successful in that profession. You just have to suck it up and thank the people who made you the success that you are.
Johnny Depp seems to know who is responsible for his success. He was voted Hollywood’s best signer.

Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema have reached agreement to make J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” a planned prequel to the blockbuster trilogy “The Lord of the Rings”
Relations between Jackson and New Line had soured after the enormous success of “Rings,” but Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (MGM) helped the two sides reach agreement. MGM and New Line will split the film 50/50, a spokesman for MGM said.
“I’m very pleased that we’ve been able to put our differences behind us, so that we may begin a new chapter with our old friends at New Line,” Jackson said in a statement.

Well the crappy bootleg version of this trailer hit the web earlier this weekend, but now the full trailer is available online. If you want to see the trailer in the theater you’ll have to go see “I Am Legend”. Heath Ledger looks like an amazing Joker. I must admit, I was skeptical at first, but he really pulled it off. Check out the Trailer. Click Here

“I Am Legend” debuted with a tremendous $76.5 million. That is the best opening ever for a December film, as well as a new personal best for it’s star Will Smith. The Fresh Prince has further cemented his status as box office gold. It’s hard for one of this man’s movies not to make money.
The movie centers on Will Smith’s character who is a plague survivor and quite possibly the last surviving human on Earth. Also, as a treat, “The Dark Knight” trailer is attached before the film, and it looks amazing. If you’re interested in that, here’s “The Dark Knight” bootleg trailer. Click Here. I must warn you though, the quality is crap.

“The Kingdom” starring Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, and Jason Bateman has been given an earlier release date. It was originally slated to come out after Christmas, but Universal has pushed the date up to December 23rd. So if you need that last minute Christmas gift, this would make a good one. It will be available on DVD and HD DVD.
Plot: A team of U.S. government agents is sent to investigate the bombing of an American facility in the Middle East.
