John Rambo

rambo.jpg

Well, it’s approaching, for anyone who may be interested. Stallone as John Rambo one last time. Did it work out for Rocky Balboa, meh, not so much, it wasn’t the worst movie I’ve ever seen though. I liked Stallone, but I kinda wish he would stop dusting off his old characters. I guess he just wants to wrap their stories up the way he wants them to end, instead of the way the studios wanted them to end. Anyway, about the movie.

The Director: Sylvester Stallone

Sure, why not, he directed such classics as Staying Alive, and Rocky Balboa…yeah anyway, it can’t get much worse.

The Story:

(from Yahoo Movies)

John Rambo is living a quiet life as a recluse in the U.S.–until a young girl goes missing, and he abandons his quiet lifestyle and takes justice into his own hands.

Hey, if you love Rambo, but don’t go expecting a masterpiece. I’ve never considered the Rambo franchise that special, entertaining? sure, but not great. Go at your own risk.

G.I. Joe Movie

G.I. Joe

With the success of Transformers, Hasbro has finally gotten a green light for another one of their franchises, G.I. Joe.   The idea for this movie has been kicked around Hollywood for a while now, but now has the momentum to be made.

The Director:  Stephen Sommers

Stephen Sommers’ take was inspired by a trip to Hasbro’s headquarters in Rhode Island, where he learned in depth about the world of G.I. Joe. Sommers then met with Paramount brass, who sparked to his ideas. The studio is eyeing a summer 2009 release.

If the name doesn’t ring a bell, his previous movies inlcude “The Mummy” franchise as well as “Van Helsing.”  Yeah it’s risky picking him, but let’s hope it turns out ok.

The Story:

Well there are no exact details obviously, but this is known:

The film will see soldiers from all branches of the military fighting a terrorist group called Cobra, led by the Cobra Commander and featuring such villains as the Baroness, metal-faced arms dealer Destro, master of disguise Zartan and biker gang Dreadnoks.

On the good guys’ side were heroes such as the mute ninja Snake Eyes and the fetching heroine Scarlett, who were led by a Joe named Duke.

They are eying a 2009 release date.

Star Trek XI

star trek 2Star Trek

For those of you (such as myself) who have never been huge fans of Star Trek, you now have a reason to give it one more chance. I could never get into it, maybe because I didn’t know what the hell was going on most of the time, yet my brother sat glued in front of the tv. Not to mention there were so many different versions, who knew what characters belonged to which show. If I didn’t know what was what on television, I surely wasn’t going to the theater to see it.

However, a new opportunity has presented itself. We can now start this story over from the beginning, which seems to be a very popular trend in Hollywood lately. This story starts at the beginning, even before the first Star Trek movie.

The Story:

The early days of James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, their first meeting at Starfleet Academy and first outer space mission.

Yeah, there’s not much to it, but JJ Abrams is directing, so you’re not likely to get the whole story, just look at 1-18-08. Not much of the cast has been officially casted yet, so we’ll have to see who gets involved, but don’t be suprised to see a few big name actors in it. It has already been stated that Matt Damon is in talks to play Captain Kirk.

So if you ever wanted to give Star Trek a chance, now would be the best time to do it.

Sweeney Todd

Johnny Depp stars as Sweeney Todd in Tim Burton’s new movie. This movie is based on a broadway play, so unfortunately it’s probably going to be a musical of sorts.

The Story:

Based on the 19th century legend of Sweeney Todd and the hit Broadway musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Sweeney Todd a.k.a Benjamin Barker returns to London after being sent away by Judge Turpin with the help of a sailor, Anthony Hope. He opens a barber shop above Mrs. Lovett’s Meat Pie Shop were she sells “the worst pies in London.” With the help of Mrs. Lovett, Todd tries to rid of all the people who have ever done him wrong and hopes to be reunited with his daughter, Joanna, who is now Judge Turpin’s ward.

This movie could be amazing, however due to the musical nature that it will probably have, I can only say it’s going to be watchable. That’s just me though, alot of people love Tim Burton musicals. (The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Corpse Bride). We’ll have to wait and see how this turns out. Hope for the best.

I am Legend

Will Smith is the latest actor to take on the vampire genre. In “I Am Legend” he stars as the last man on Earth. A more precise premise is below.

The Story:

When an attempt at curing cancer evolves into a plague that turns nearly every human on Earth into a bloodthirsty vampire, one lone surviving human, Robert Neville (Will Smith), struggles to survive in the ruins of New York City, fighting the monstrous hordes by day, and retreating to his barricaded home at night. Just as a vampire in our world would seem like a fantastic myth, so in this time of vampires is the idea of a man who has actually resisted being infested with the plague. In the vampire community, Robert Neville, the last man on Earth, the Omega man, you might say, has become… a legend.

This might seem like it is a slight rip-off of 28 days later, but it’s not.  You can see the comments below in which the story came from.  Thanks for the comments.

Release Date: December 14th, 2007

This is pretty exciting news for the fans of Scarface, Godfather, Raging Bull, Scent of a Woman, Goodfellas, Casino, Serpico, Taxi Driver, …well you get the idea.  These two acting powerhouses have only been seen in one other movie acting together, Heat.  Even in that movie they only appeared together in one scene.

In this movie they will play cops tracking a serial killer, and will appear together for the majority of the movie.  Awesome.  Now, additional cast members include Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as a drug dealer…(yeah whatever, prolly won’t be looking for an oscar-worthy performance there) , and also Carla Gugino as the female lead, who is a crime scene investigator who has a thing with De Niro’s character.  (You may remember her from Sin City, or as the mom in the Spy Kids movies, which I’ve never seen for the record.)

Anyway, I’ve devised a formula to calculate if this movie will be good or not,

Pacino + De Niro = Awesome.

And there you have it.
